WHAT IS SAND DREDGING?
Sand dredging is a way to combat erosion by artificially adding sand back to a beach. This is usually done with a large machine that sucks up sand from the ocean floor and deposits it on the beach.
Beach nourishment, or beach filling, is the practice of adding large quantities of sand or sediment to beaches to combat erosion and increase beach width
Beach Replenishment
Beach Replenishment (or Nourishment) is a soft armoring technique that involves pumping sand onto an eroding shoreline to widen the existing beach. While this does not prevent erosion, it can reduce storm damage to coastal development & infrastructure.
The 825 miles of sandy Florida coastline are dynamic — shifting and changing over time in response to storms, natural events and, lately, sea-level rise brought on by climate warming. More than half — 426.3 miles — are considered critically eroded.
