The Ides of March is the 74th day in the Roman calendar, corresponding to 15 March. It was marked by several religious observances and was notable in Rome as a deadline for settling debts. In 44 BC, it became notorious as the date of Julius Caesar’s assassination which marked a turning point in Roman history.0 Kalends, Nones and Ides were ancient markers used to reference dates in relation to lunar phases; Ides simply referred to the first new moon of a given month which usually fell between the 13th and 15th.
