Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of remembering the humanity of Christ during our times of sorrow, grief, and loss.

When we are suffering the loss of a loved one, or another deep emotional hurt, it may be that we decide for ourselves that God cannot possibly know or understand loss and sorrow the way we do. As a spirit being knowing all things, how can He possibly know what it is like to be a mortal and to know mortality?

The Gospel of John reveals to us that Jesus, the Son of God, was well acquainted with life the way we know it. He experienced loss and grief at the departure of a friend and mourned with his friends still living, even when he knew he would bring them back in but a moment.

We do not always understand why things happen, or what God's plan is, but we should be comforted in knowing that God absolutely understands what it feels like to lose someone, and his heart hurts for us when we share it.

The famously short verse in the Bible, "Jesus wept" encapsulates how the Creator of all things responds to the sorrow of His beloved children. If you are experiencing loss, turn to God for peace. He knows what you're feeling, and He will gladly share it with you.
