Uncovering the Truth Behind Israel's Epic Judicial Review System
The Israeli government has advanced a controversial piece of legislation that could all but eliminate judicial review in the country. According to reports, the legislation, which was proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, would limit the power of the Supreme Court to review government decisions and laws. Critics of the bill argue that it would undermine the principle of separation of powers and reduce the court’s ability to protect citizens’ rights. Supporters, on the other hand, contend that it would make the judicial system more efficient and effective. The bill is expected to be passed in the near future, but it could face legal challenges if it is deemed to be unconstitutional. This would not be the first time that the Israeli government has sought to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court. In recent years, it has proposed various bills to limit judicial review, but all of them have been rejected by the court.
If the current bill is passed, it will be the first time that the government has succeeded in significantly limiting the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction. This would have significant implications for the country’s democracy, as it would make it much more difficult for citizens to challenge the government and get justice.
