Shazam! Fury of the Gods, 2023, Summary

Billy Batson and his scrappy foster family put their heroic skills to the test against an ancient foe with a terrible vendetta. Shazam! Fury of the Gods injects much-needed brightness, humor, and heart into a dour and sad comic book medium. Children mature and must deal with adult issues, but when given the opportunity, they realize their full potential. The enjoyable sequel builds on the original by advancing the characters to the next natural stage of their growth. It's not all laughs, though, with solid action thrills and just enough darkness to make the baddies truly terrifying.
A mistake made during the last film's climax cracks through a barrier, allowing banished gods to emerge. Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), the Daughters of Atlas, raid a museum in search of an important artifact. They reveal their true motives by corrupting, punishing, and killing with restored magic. Humans are frail creatures who can be disposed of at will. They will experience a rage that has been simmering for thousands of years.
