We live in a time of political extremes, one of which masks itself as moderation. The vast central state that most now live under may be typical of our times, but it is neither "moderate" nor sustainable. It is an extreme form of government. In a typical action-reaction response, a political philosophy which goes to extremes in the opposite direction has gained adherents -anarchy. Localism is a philosophy of government which says that neither of these extremes are what is best for humanity. Rather, we need to balance community with individualism in a way where both can prosper. Localism is the middle path.
