When we can't accept that an experience has ended, we can keep reproducing it inside of ourselves as long as we want. We can add as many alternate endings as we want. There is no limit to the time we can spend reliving the past and rewriting the fantasy versions of what never took place. We can become so attached to these fictional experiences, making it harder to let go of the original grief we felt.
