BEFORE becoming one of alternative music’s most unique and engaging personalities, singer Beabadoobee was born Beatrice Kristi Laus on June 3rd, 2000, in Iloilo City, Philippines. There, Bea lived for the first few years of her life before emigrating to Camden in North London at the age of three. Living in this very cosmopolitan part of the city, Bea was an active kid who swam competitively, messed around with gymnastics and ballet, played the violin, and performed competitively at talent shows as a pre-teen. But during these important developmental years, less-than-positive things were happening to her as well. For instance, while attending a mostly-white, all-girls Catholic school, Bea found herself feeling more and more like an alien. Eventually this led to a moment of teenaged rebellion where she told her classmates she was gay. It wasn’t quite true. Today, Bea identifies as bi-sexual, but back then, she was simply looking to get a reaction. She also found it difficult trying to relate to the handful of other Asian kids around her.
