Colton Harris Moore, an American teen fugitive, was suspected of being responsible for hundreds of thefts in Washington, Idaho, and Canada, including bicycles, automobiles, light aircrafts, and speedboats, all of which he committed while still a teenager. He was dubbed the Barefoot Bandit because of his reported habit of committing crimes without shoes.

Moore learned how to fly small planes by reading aircraft manuals, watching flying instructional DVDs, and playing flight simulator computer games. Moore started living in the wild at the age of seven, due to an abusive father, and by the time he was 13, he already had four convictions for stolen property. He often broke into homes just to soak in a hot bath or steal ice cream from the freezer.

Moore fled to the Bahamas in a stolen plane and was indicted two days later, after police shot out the engine of a boat he was attempting to flee in. Moore was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for dozens of consolidated charges brought against him from three different countries.
