5. Could God have avoided evil?
If God is so powerful why could he not have created a world without suffering, pain and death?
Here we look at the idea that God could not have created any other world other than the one we live in. God is a God of love and we are created in his image. For us to love there must be freedom to choose to love. Love cannot be forced. For freedom to love to exist necessitates the freedom not to love. It is the result of the choice not to believe God and to love that has brought our world to the place we are at today. Suffering, sickness, fear, hopelessness, injury, abuse, every kind of evil all occur because we have chosen to go away from God who is good. When we go away from good we go towards bad.
There is an answer to our problem and God has provided it himself. The next world is where there is no longer any suffering, pain, tears or death. It is in this world we make our choice as to where we will spend eternity - either in peace or torment.
