Hep A virus

How is the hepatitis A virus transmitted?
Hepatitis A is transmitted through the fecal-oral route. This can happen through:
* Close person-to-person contact with an infected person
* Sexual contact with an infected person
* Ingestion of contaminated food or water

HEMOGLOBIN
Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The hemoglobin test measures how much hemoglobin is in your blood.

HEP B

Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Hepatitis B is spread when blood, semen, or other body fluids from a person infected with the virus enters the body of someone who is not infected.

HCG

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is often called the pregnancy hormone because it is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. Levels can first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and about 12-14 days after conception by a urine test.

HEMATOCRIT
Hematocrit is the percentage, by volume, of how much of your blood contains red blood cells (RBCs). Measuring this percentage reveals whether you have too many or too few red blood cells, which can be used to diagnose certain diseases.

HEART DISEASE
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, causing about 1 in 4 deaths.

HODGKINS

What Is Hodgkin Lymphoma?

Lymphomas are cancers that start in white blood cells called lymphocytes.

Lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin may swell. Fatigue, fever, and chills are some symptoms.
Treatments include chemotherapy, radiation, and in rare cases stem-cell transplant.

Human growth hormone

Growth hormone (GH) is a small protein that is made by the pituitary gland and secreted into the bloodstream.

HEMOGLOBIN

Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The hemoglobin test measures how much hemoglobin is in your blood.

HEMATOCRIT

Hematocrit is the percentage, by volume, of how much of your blood contains red blood cells (RBCs). Measuring this percentage reveals whether you have too many or too few red blood cells, which can be used to diagnose certain diseases.

HIV

What is HIV?
* HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

Where did HIV come from?
* HIV infection in humans came from a type of chimpanzee in Central Africa.
* The chimpanzee version of the virus (called simian immunodeficiency virus, or SIV) was probably passed to humans when humans hunted these chimpanzees for meat and came in contact with their infected blood.
* Studies show that HIV may have jumped from chimpanzees to humans as far back as the late 1800s.
