How to ADHD "Proof" Your Life

In this video I go over tips and interventions to help you manage your ADHD.

1. Learn from your past mistakes:
2. Leave things that you need to take on top of your keys
3. Leave your badge or things you need for work in your car if possible
4. Set a timer for when you start cooking so you don’t forget you left something on the stove
5. Do a double check before submitting emails, closing car doors, or sending homework
6. Use electronic notifications and reminders: to remind you when to take medication, water plants etc
7. Use lists. Make use of lists and notes to keep track of regularly scheduled tasks, projects, deadlines, and appointments. If you decide to use a daily planner, keep all lists and notes inside it. You also have many options for use on your smartphone or computer. Search for “to do” apps or task managers.
8. Give yourself more time than you think you need. Adults with ADHD are notoriously bad at estimating how long it will take to do something. For every thirty minutes of time you think it will take you to get someplace or complete a task, give yourself a cushion by adding ten minutes.
9. Plan to be early and set up reminders. Write down appointments for fifteen minutes earlier than they really are. Set up reminders to ensure you leave on time and make sure you have everything you need ahead of time so you're not frantically looking for your keys or phone when it's time to go.
10. Learn to say no
11. Impulsiveness can lead adults with ADHD to agree to too many projects at work or make too many social engagements.
