Australia Needs Nuclear Subs To Combat Chinese Militarization — Canberra

According to Defense Minister Richard Marles, Australia’s blockbuster $245 billion deal to acquire up to five new nuclear-powered submarines is needed to combat the growing regional military buildup.

“A failure to do so would see us be condemned by history,” Marles said before claiming to have even offered China a briefing of the 30-year deal that will create a reported 20,000 jobs for Australians.

In response, Beijing urged the US, UK, and Australia “to abandon the Cold War mentality and zero-sum game, faithfully fulfill their international obligations, and do more to contribute to regional peace and stability.”
