On November 25, 1985 U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese admitted that profits from covert weapons sales to Iran were illegally diverted to the anti-communist Contra rebels in Nicaragua in what would come to be known as the Iran-Contra Affair.

Here's what they didn't cover too much in the hollywood hit movie Argo...

The scandal was further compounded when Oliver North, a member of the National Security Council, stole and destroyed pertinent documents the days from November 21st to the 25th.
North would ultimately be convicted of accepting an illegal gratuity, obstruction of a Congressional inquiry, and the destruction of documents. Fourteen other participants were indicted and convicted for their roles in the operation, as well.
