The Ouija board says "buy". How can you be so sure? Let's break it down on this week's spooky edition of Inside Baseball: Play of the Day Episode 20...

In honor of Halloween, we’re going to cover some of Baltimore's ghostly past.

Did you know the Ouija board was invented in Baltimore? That’s right. The board was first mass-produced by the Kennard Novelty Company at 220 South Charles Street overlooking the Inner Harbor.

It’s success was bolstered by the popular Spiritualist movement at the time, and the company went on open another factory on Pratt Street in Baltimore, two factories in New York, two in Chicago, and one in London.

There is a scientific explanation for the knee-jerk muscle movement that seems to come from another realm.

It’s called the “ideomotor phenomenon.” It’s an unconscious, reflexive muscle movement that occurs when we focus on a specific word, thought, or action. It can affect an individual but is amplified with more people involved.

This phenomenon is even partially to blame for boom and bust cycles in the stock market.

So let’s take a lesson from this spooky game in this week's episode of Inside Baseball: Play of the Day...
