Thousands of migrants charge U.S.-Mexico border

US Border forces engaged in a standoff with migrants on Sunday after thousands attempted to charge the border. The migrants, mostly male Venezuelans, chanted ‘to the US’ and attempted to storm the Paso Del Norte Bridge. Border agents were force to corral the group using barbed wire fences, and tried to deter more coming by deploying tear gas. Some migrants attempted to push past anyway, or try and swim across the Rio Grande.

The cause of the chaos seems to be rumors spread on social media, likely by Mexican cartels, that the US was going to open the border due to the ‘Day of the Migrant’ celebration (which, we should point out, is not a real American holiday, even though it sounds plausible). Many turned up simply wanting to see if the rumors were true, and ended up caught in the madness, which the cartels were using to disrupt border checks, and drum up business for their human trafficking operations.
