A holidaymaker plunged 150 feet to his death after slipping as he took a selfie on a spectacular cliff near the paradise island of Bali.

Victim Abhishek Bhatia, 43, had been with a tour guide on a trip to the visitor hotspot Broken Bay, on Nusa Penida Island, Indonesia, when he fell on Saturday, 4th March.

Guide Komang Sana told local police he had tried to catch Abhishek by his leg, but he was too heavy to hold onto.

Gruesome snaps of the scene show Indian national Bhatia face down in the sea at the foot of the cliff, apparently dead.

Nusa Penida Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinator Cakra Negara said: "The victim slipped and fell over the cliff."

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Nusa Penida Police dated 4th March saying that Abhishek was with his partner Eny Kusrini, 47, when he fell.

They said: "After carrying out the tour of the eastern region and having lunch, the victim continued the tour of the western region, namely Klingking Beach and continued with the Broken Beach tourist attraction.

"The victim arrived at the Broken Beach tourist attraction at 16.30pm, then the victim took a position on the edge of the cliff to take a photo with his back to the Broken Beach photo object.

"Then suddenly Komang Sana saw the victim lean and fall, but Komang Sana was able to hold the victim's leg.

"But because of the victim's body weight, Komang Sana could not hold it and it immediately fell to the bottom of the cliff.

"The victim was successfully evacuated at 19.40pm dead and then the victim's body was taken to Gema Santi Hospital, Nusa Penida."

Broken Bay - with its naturally formed rock arches surrounding a pool of sea - is one of the most photographed places around Bali.
