Here is a video of Senator Ted Cruz grilling AG Garland a few weeks ago about the handling of threats to Supreme Court Justices.

To me, the reversal, "Said he'll beat my ass," sounds like Cruz was or will be threatened and the reversal from Garland, "This mayhem that I sow," is pretty straight forward.
