MINUTE PRAYER. Finding Strength in the Faith of San Sebastian

San Sebastian, often referred to as Saint Sebastian, was a Christian martyr who lived in what is now France in the late third and early fourth century. He is highly regarded in the Catholic Church for standing up for the faith and serving as an example of bravery and tenacity in the face of opposition.

Sebastian was a Roman army commander who, according to mythology, turned to Christianity and became a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. He was well-known for his generosity and compassion, and he frequently assisted the ill and the less fortunate. Sebastian refused to deny his beliefs when the emperor Diocletian started persecuting Christians; as a result, he was sentenced to death.

After being hit with arrows and left for dead, he managed to live and was given medical attention by a group of Christian ladies. When he returned to the emperor after being healed, he freely stated his religion, for which he was killed by being beaten. Being the patron saint of athletes, warriors, and archers today, San Sebastian continues to serve as an example of courage and dedication to the Catholic faith for people all over the world.
