North Korea Fires Submarine-Launched Missile Ahead of "Freedom Shield" Exercise
The "Freedom Shield" military drill between Seoul and Washington began today.

According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff this morning, North Korea has fired at least one missile from a submarine in the East Sea of the peninsula.
The South's military has not yet provided additional information, but according to the North's state-run According to Korea Central News Agency, North Korea launched two strategic cruise missiles early on Sunday morning from its submarine known as "the 8-24 Hero-sub" in the East Sea as part of an underwater training exercise.
The experiment, according to the news agency, was intended to evaluate the submarine unit's capabilities to attack from both above and below the surface of the ocean.
