Arborist Filmmaking 101 | Bucket Truck B-Roll

This is just a fun little experiment in filmmaking that I did back in September of 2018. I got up early and caught some good natural light, and I just walked around the truck filming everything that I thought looked even remotely interesting. I shot this with a GoPro Hero 5 and cut it in Premiere Pro. Also, this took me FOREVER to edit, but I'm so glad that I did it, because it made me better at editing. The skills that I learned in this video edit translated directly into my later films, such as 'Family Business' and 'Drop World'.

B-roll is a super important part of storytelling in film and video, but it's something that I didn't even recognize or understand at all until just a few months ago. Now when I watch something that doesn't incorporate b-roll, it seems very odd. Anyway, this is something that I've been trying hard to work into my videos, you may have noticed it more and more over the last few months. Of course, if your video is only b-roll (like this one), then your video will make absolutely no sense at all, just like this one! Thanks for watching! - Patrick
