1915 Favorite Soup

1 large onion
1 carrot
¼ cup melted butter
6 good-sized tomatoes
1 quarts boiling stock
1 tbs flour
1 cup rice
Cut 1 large onion and 1 carrot into tubes; put into a frying-pan with I/4 cup melted butter; cook slowly a few minutes, then add 6 good-sized tomatoes, cut in pieces; 2 quarts boiling water or stock, 1 tablespoon flour browned in butter, and 1 cup rice. Cook slowly until the rice is tender; season, and serve.

Note: I did not thicken the soup with flour. I simply used less stock.
