Asteroid that could strike Earth on Valentine's Day 2046

NASA has announced that it is closely monitoring a newly-discovered asteroid named 2023 DW, which could potentially impact Earth on Valentine's Day 2046.

The space rock has an average diameter of 49m and is currently 11 billion miles away from Earth. While there is a small chance of it hitting our planet, the impact would not likely cause a global catastrophe.

NASA will continue to track the asteroid and update its predictions as more data becomes available. In September 2022, the agency tested a method of planetary defense against near-Earth objects by crashing the DART spacecraft into the Dimorphos asteroid.
