Unless you have been hiding under a rock for past few weeks, you have heard about China spy balloon incident, where on 4 February 2023 the Department of Defense had to shoot down a Chinese weather balloon carrying a huge signal intelligence array. What's the big deal about a weather balloon, you ask??
For one spying on US is just one and by far the least terrifying way it can be utilized for military purposes, and secondly it's just not the weather it's Chinese weather balloon.
