When Pedro began looking for work in Hollywood, he adopted his mother’s last name of “Pascal” as his own to honor her memory. At first, he went by the name of “Alexander Pascal” in an homage to the Ingmar Bergman masterpiece “Fanny and Alexander”, but according to Pedro that first name only confused casting directors, so he switched it back. The first audition of Pedro Pascal’s career was for the Richard Gere film, “Primal Fear”. It’s not exactly clear what part he was auditioning for, but given his age back then, my guess is that it was probably the part that went to a young Edward Norton. Needless to say, Pedro didn’t book the gig. He did, however, end up getting cast over the next few years in a series of television appearances, including the season four premiere of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in which he was quickly turned into a blood-thirsty monster and then laid-to rest on-screen by Sarah Michelle Gellar herself.
