Scripture tells us to behold both God's kindness and severity. Because of varying reasons we oftentimes only like to consider God's kindness, but beholding both is integral to a balanced spiritual growth and knowing God as He really is. There is a difference between the penalty of sin and the consequence of sin. We can be forgiven of the penalty in Christ Jesus, but we must also be responsible for our actions.
