After appearing on a series of different media outlets to complain about what was happening to him, Tory Lanez was called out by fellow rapper Russ who argued that unless an artist has all of their songs ripped off the internet and their fans have absolutely nowhere to go to listen to their music – then an artist isn’t really being black-balled by the industry. Russ also took offence to the idea that famous artists need playlists to thrive, suggesting that any musician that does so probably doesn’t have the strongest fanbase supporting them in the first place. And while Tory’s latest album, “Sorry 4 What” was noticeably absent from all the top playlists on streaming services just like Lanez said it was, it still managed to reach the top of Apple’s album chart only a few days after release. When you couple that fact with “Sorry 4 What’s” breaking into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 – it’s admittedly hard to see what Tory is getting at here. Sure, having his numbers artificially pumped-up by featuring his singles on playlists would no doubt lead to even more money in his pockets, but it’s not accurate to suggest that the man is being railroaded when his music is actually moving some pretty decent numbers.
