Both of Pedro’s parents were then listed as enemies of the state by the violent new regime because Pedro’s mother was the niece of Andres Pascal Allende, the leader of the country’s Revolutionary Left Movement. One day, Pascal’s father helped an injured rebel and wound up putting his own family’s safety at risk because when that same man was later arrested and tortured, he gave the regime a list of names, including that of Pascal’s father
