It Took Six Months…

It took 6 months to get this clearance, but finally I’m able to get my wisdom teeth extracted (and my bone grafting)!

Healthcare is not one size fits all. Because I have a rare disease (hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), but because I also have a hole in my heart (PFO - patent foramen ovale), and because I have dysautonomia it takes extra doctors approvals in order to sedate me for surgery. This is something that cannot be taken lightly as an oral surgeon’s office is not nearly as well equipped to deal with unstable vitals during sedation as a hospital. When you have only a single Golden Hour, the risk is not worth it to the patient, so my doctors take extra precautions. I would rather my journey be slow and safe, than rushed and dangerous. So I appreciate the due diligence with my healthcare.

For my fellow chronic illness warriors, try to not be discouraged by the time things take, but rather take comfort in the medical providers that would rather be certain than to just gamble with your health and safety.
