During an interview with police, one of Ja’s lawyers said that the boy’s mother had demanded millions of dollars from Morant immediately following the altercation, implying that the whole ordeal is nothing more than a shakedown. Court records don’t exactly dismiss that claim as the boy’s mother does have a history of filing lawsuits that are eventually dismissed, including a discrimination lawsuit against Memphis’ fire department and another against her children’s school district. In a statement to “The Washington Post” -- the media outlet that’s led the charge on this incident -- Morant’s agent called these allegations: “Unsubstantiated rumors and gossip put out by people motivated to tear Ja down and tarnish his reputation for their own financial gain.”
