Ohio teen Ebonie Sherwood suffers sudden cardiac arrest during track practice, condition critical
Mar 7, 2023. Ebonie Sherwood was at track practice and started feeling ill. She went to her trainers and literally collapsed into their arms.
Her trainers quickly started performing CPR and used an automatic external defibrillator. More than 5 shocks were required to restart Ebonie's heart.
Ebonie has since been moved to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she is listed in critical but stable condition.
As so countless other reports, this one too focuses on the importance of immediate start of CPR by skilled people and the presence of external defibrillators along with the skilled people to operate the equipment.
While this is not wrong, the elephant in the room is of course the question what is causing this abrupt meteoric rise in sudden, unexpected deaths since 2021, especially among young, lean, fit, healthy, active people.
