Human Performance Outliers podcast

if you are worried about LDL:
don’t worry about saturated fat
it may make your LDL go high, BUT
will not make your LDL GO Bad

what will make your LDL go bad:
-having unstable glucose levels
-consuming oxidized seed oils

Japanese scientists, in 1990s,
discovered that when sugar binds to
the LD particle, it denatures these
proteins and leads to shrinkage

we can put sample of our LDL into
gel and
spin it in centrifuge, or
lipid electrophoresis

to separate the LD by density

we can then see how many LDL populations
you have…
1 peak: perfectly normal
more than 1: damaged LDL

‘in my clinic, if 2 peaks, correlates with
coronary arterial calcium score…
no too problematic,
but, more than 2 peaks, we see
significant atherosclerotic burden

there is an association between triglycerides and HDL
and oxidative stress…
can tell if someone has good or bad LDL

Dr Ben Bikman says:
look at triglycerides to HDL ration:
if less than 1.5, you are doing well
