12

This is the eighth game of the fourth 1834 unofficial world chess championship match between Louis-Charles Mahé de La Bourdonnais and Alexander McDonnell.

This one once more features the McDonnell Gambit Variation of the King's Gambit, and sees McDonnell giving up many pieces in order to go for victory and a perfect game.

Today's guest commentator is Roman Emperor and stoic philisopher, Marcus Aurelius.

Will McDonnell achieve perfection, or will he once more burn out too soon?
Will both players come to terms with their destinies?

"Recognise what you can and cannot control.
You determine your reaction to a crisis.
Ignore people dominated by their own negative emotions.
Master yourself and aim to be virtuous.
Learn to move on."
