Numbers 35-36 | Cities of Refuge

In the book of Numbers chapters 35-36, God instructs the Israelites to set aside certain towns as cities of refuge for those who accidentally committed manslaughter. These cities were designated as safe havens for people who unintentionally caused the death of another person and allowed them to escape revenge killings.

The chapter also deals with the issue of intermarriage between different tribes, with God instructing that women who inherit property must marry within their own tribe. This is to prevent the land from being transferred from one tribe to another.

The laws concerning manslaughter and inheritance in these chapters provide important insights into justice and fairness within the community. The cities of refuge and the allocation of priests' residences throughout the land ensure that all people have access to justice and spiritual guidance, regardless of their location.
