CULTural MOCKery Paraded - St. Patrick's Day [The First in a Trilogy]

[Transitional Times Poem Collection] -
As relevant for 2024 as it was in 2023!!!
This has now become the 1st Poem in a “Triogy for St. Patrick's Day 2023 by Louiseiology”, reflecting on Ireland 'present'. Nation and National Pride are defining aspects of any Culture. What happens though, when occasions for National Celebration are increasingly manipulated for broader agendas? With the worldwide ‘popularity’ of the Irish St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the nuances of our Patron Saint’s National Parade can be influential across other nations and continents. Ah sure, if the Irish are ok with it, I suppose we should be?!! Well, many native Irish are not ok with it. How do we each recognise it and combat it? A ‘dawn’ occurs where the cumulative effect, of various ‘governing’ actions are recognised … and then … we rise together … and we address it.

This poem is my way of attempting to bring clarity for that ‘dawn’, and to stimulate our Irish passions. In that sense, it is a call to raising awareness, in the faith that we stand and act together, to rectify the variety of issues we have ‘endured’ and are currently being faced with.

The tune being ‘hummed’ in the background is “Irish Ways and Irish Laws”, a song I have always loved, with the inclusion of an additional ‘ verse’ created by me along the way with this poem and its presentation.

Wishing every one with Irish blood, both at home and abroad, and all who ‘love’ the Irish and simply love ‘peace’ and ‘freedom’, a most uplifting St. Patrick’s Day - 17th March 2023.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day one and all. Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona - do dhuine amháin agus do gach duine.

This ‘ode’ creation falls into my 'Transitional Times' poem category which contains 'a variety of Motivational and Commentary poems exploring issues of the time'.

Poem Wording below:-

CULTural MOCKery Paraded– St. Patrick’s Day

It’s the worst of ‘Cultural Mockery’
A new kind of proverbial ‘tom feckery’
More ‘Pathocracy’, subverting the perception,
Enhancing their ongoing ‘satanic theocracy’ dimension.
Pushing forward now, through, ‘cultural derision’
Seeking to further any division, create a schism.

With the ‘in group’, ‘out group’ - to divide and conquer
We’ve identified now who is for the ‘Go, get on out group’!!

A patron saint, our Patron Saint, whether you like him
Or whether you now question ‘his stint’, is not the point.
Regardless, he is an Irish Icon, associated with ‘our cultural bent’.
Our nation’s pride and its esteem.
Real pride – not the other mocking kind.
Celebrated internationally, as for Ireland worldwide?!

St. Patrick’s Day – 17th March, now ‘a weekend festival’??
The cancelled celebrations of 2020 – to announce lockdowns
for a ‘declared’ ‘pandemic’ – Impacted the Irish psyche immensely.

As an aside, his feast, our St. Partrick, is the 17th March. The end.
It’s not a festival weekend?!
Like the newly instated St. Brigid’s, bank holiday.
You know St. Brigid’s Feast Day is the 1st February, not a Monday, either before or after!!

Our icon – one we’ve long had the ‘ownership’ of
Now being turned into a symbol for sexuality, money and greed -
As if an all Irish trait.
Some planned parade?! Turned into a right ‘charade’.
Being extended, mockingly into an international tirade.
An abuse of Irish people’s values, our creeds and deeds.

Giving another proverbial meaning to our leafy ‘sham’ ’rock’.
How now can we get back the bedrock of this Nation?
Revert to Shamrock – as Holy Trinity – get some spiritual elation?!

We’ve been and paraded before, we know the score….
These images probably show you, or your generation, just around age 4 or more!!

We the Irish people – need to stand as Patrick now -
As with, the Godly Staff, previous in his hand
We beat the ground – and shake them off as needed!
We drive the ‘sneaks’ out – yea, the modern ‘snakes’!
Away, away, away, every last one - Bar None!

Can we put ‘paid’ finally …. To the ‘kiss of death’ ……
Oh, some of the joys of the internet!!! Tweetie pie!!!

With feet, should we pound … to a drum sound?
Left foot, right foot, stamped on streets, on our ground.
And a bang of the ‘staff’, thump - thump - thump
Ba da bum. Ba da bum. Hearts and beat quickening …

“Our Homeland. Our Life. Our Culture. Our Choice.”
Slither away now sneaks - while being given notice ….
As for the burn that will come upon you there is no poultice, no balm.
With you in hell.
All then will be calm – just you go scram!!

St. Patrick and his Staff, (that’s us…)
The people and a walking stick –
Perhaps a hurl as is used with a ‘sliotar’?!
Pound the ground with feet and wood.
We can show you a modern parade….no more of your petty tirades.
Yes, you - Mick and Joe, and Aisling and Grainne
Go on ye!! Good on ye!!
We getting to ‘the point’, and
We near have a goal in the net.
With teamwork - we watch each other’s back.
Never miss a trick. Pass on the puck, keep rolling the ball.

That’s ‘a Nation’s call’. Let’s put paid to them all.
“Our Homeland. Our Life. Our Culture. Our Choice.”
Hear Our Voice.

Let’s celebrate the Ireland that is …
Under our skin – the Soul within, the Irish Soul within.
Not the defacement of a nation and her people
With the proposals for celebration of a corporal flesh being.
Aired worldwide for added derision.
Do we become a ‘pansy’ of an ‘OWG ‘ one world government?
Or do we ‘OWG’ ‘Own With God’ - this country we were born in?

Get up. It’s March time – St. Patrick’s Day season!
Let’s use the ‘ides’ of March and turn the tides this March!
As you know, we have good reason.
Get out on the streets, all around them - pound with your feet.
Make it resound – raise the frequency, our vital vibrations.
Let’s celebrate who we are .. our heritage and spirit ..
And our beautiful Republic as our Sovereign Nation.

Perhaps this poem could be viewed as an ‘ode’,
to the ‘ides’ of March. Who’d a thunk I had it in me!!

Nil is agam!! I don’t know!!

Is it about time, to turn the tides!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day one and all.
Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona - do dhuine amháin agus do gach duine.
Thank you. Go raibh maith agat.

Louise.

Additional Information:-

The hummed and sung background music to the video, is from the song - “Irish Ways and Irish Laws”, written by John Gibbs. I was inspired to include an additional verse (with words sung at a reduced volume so poem words can be heard) - the words of this ‘added verse’ are:-

“Yes dear Lord, the time has come.
It is so. Thy will be done.
We will have our Spirit spared.
We are a river flowing.
Flowing into one.”
