Chicago Bears Secondary a Bright Spot?? Or another area of need?

I think this narrative exists just because we have players locked in on contracts for the next year in the secondary, so there is no obvious glaring holes. Jaylon johnson is here for another year, so is vildor. We just drafted gordon, he has 3 more years before we need to make a choice on him, same with brisker. Eddie jackson is also under contract... but when you look at the numbers they are not great.

Jaylon Johnson only has 1 interception in 3 years. A lot of people consider him a #1 corner but I definitely would feel way better if he was our #2. Vildor also only has one pick in 3 years. For your starting two cornerbacks, thats just not going to get it done.

Eddie jackson is here for two more years, but his cap hit is 17 mil this year and 18 mil next year, hes very expensive for a guy who just got hurt. He did have a couple interceptions this year though and played alright, but there is a situation possible where the bears may feel he isnt worth the money in 2024.

Really in my opinion, the two rookies are the bright spots here. Gordon has a really tough start to his NFL career, Ive had people debate this with me but I will stand by my video from Week 4, he was a LIABILIY for the chicago bears early on, He was a big part of our week 2 and week 4 losses. Dont get me wrong, that doesnt mean I wanted to give up on the kid. Cornerback sometimes takes a couple years to really learn the position and play well, we saw that with Kyle Fuller here when he really finally started to produce in year 4. Im very happy Gordon started to play much better as the season went on, and Wound up getting INTs against some good teams, cowboys, eagles, bills. Hes definitely a good prospect for the bears moving forward.
Brisker in my opinion has played very well for a rookie, I am very excited to have this safety on our team moving forward.

But heres the problem, Johnsons here for 1 year, vildor for 1 year, and those are your top 2 corners. So what do you do next year? Start gordon and a rookie? do you draft another CB this year?

Personally, this is where I would look at free agency and try and make a move. Marcus Peters is a free agent, he is a tad older but he would create a good veteran presence for the position, and he would instantly be the #1 corner if we signed him. Bradberry from the eagles is also set to hit free agency, that would be someone I would look at, as well as even considering the option to bring kyle fuller back to the bears. Regardless, I do think Free Agency is the best spot to address the Cornerback position this year.
