The story begins with a man dressed as Superman committing robberies in Metropolis. He is actually working for a gangster known as the Boss, who insults him frequently. The news reports that Superman has turned bad, but Lois Lane doesn't believe it. At the Daily Planet, Lois and Clark are given tickets to the opera. While at the opera, the Superman imposter steals jewelry from the audience. Lois confronts him, but he escapes. Thinking that the real Superman is responsible for the crimes, Lois calls the police. Clark follows the imposter and finds the real Superman waiting for him on the rooftop. The imposter admits that the Boss made him do it and falls off the roof, but Superman saves him. The imposter agrees to take Superman to the Boss, and Superman stands in front of the boss' desk. The Boss tries to hit him with a golf club and sends Superman falling into a pit. Superman breaks out and catches the criminals as they try to escape. Later, Lois tells Clark that he would not make a good Superman, but Clark says he can dream.
