Why We Like Stupid Stuff

"Ignorance is Bliss". When does that phrase apply? When we enjoy stupid stuff. Why do we like stupid stuff? Because it gives us that much-needed break from the repetitive, complex thinking that civilization demands of us.

Fine. The only problem is that stupid stuff actually has the effect of making us more stupid. How do we find a compromise between the need to "escape" ourselves, and the relentless stupidity that glistens (or does it "glow", from our phones) around us?
