With the end of the Civil War in 1865, the combatants try to restart their lives. On the winning side, Colonel Thomas and his Oklahoma knights decided to leave the uniform and capture wild horses, with the intention of selling them to the Union Army. Already among the defeated, the proud Confederate Colonel Langdon, in debt and threatened with losing everything to the winning Yankees of the war, tries to gather his people and prepares a large caravan towards Mexico, intending to settle there with the support of Emperor Maximilian.

Thomas and his men manage to gather a large herd of wild horses, but do not receive a good proposal from the Army. So Thomas decides to sell them to Maximilian, whose emissaries came to him. According to the agreement, Thomas must take the horses to Durango, Mexico.

Shortly after crossing the Rio Grande, the two groups of former enemies meet. Thomas and Langdon become allies and begin to face together the dangers of the foreign country, represented by bandits and the rebel troops of Benito Juárez.
