Unstoppable Doom Patrol’s creative team reveals how the team’s goal to save the world’s metahumans is putting them in the crosshairs of DC’s heroes. The Doom Patrol is heading back to the DC Universe, and it may not be the villains that need to worry about them. An interview with Unstoppable Doom Patrol's creative team reveals the crew may wind up in opposition to DC's biggest heroes. In an interview with Screen Rant, Dennis Culver and Chris Burnham sat down to discuss their work on Unstoppable Doom Patrol. In a response to a question about what sort of villains the titular team would be up against, Culver confirmed that many of the team's iconic villains would be featured, such as the Brain and Monsieur Mallah. Dennis Culver: We've got some of the classic villains returning. In the preview art you see Monsieur Mallah and the Brain. With the Brain we gave him an upgrade by putting him in a robot ape body, so they get to travel around together as a couple. And General Immortus is there, too. And not necessarily a villain, but Batman is certainly an antagonist in our first issue. And other superheroes like when they encounter the Green Lanterns in issue three, it's an antagonistic relationship. They're not teaming up to save the day. They're usually stepping on their toes or pissing them off somehow. However, Culver hinted that villains wouldn't be the only thing that the Doom Patrol will have to worry about. The writer mentions that in the miniseries' first issue, the World's Strangest Heroes will be traveling to Gotham for business and run afoul of Batman. The Dark Knight won't be the team's only headache, as the Doom Patrol will also face off against the Green Lantern Corps in the third issue. With the Doom Patrol now having a new mission to save the metahumans of the DC Universe, the heroes may not be prepared for them. The Doom Patrol was given new life in their short in Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate. The iconic team of oddities was called by Larry Trainor’s old commanding officer to help apprehend a military officer who was drastically altered as a result of the Lazarus Resin storms. Though the team showed no problem fighting anything that came their way, they revealed that their new mission was saving those whose lives have been flipped inside-out. The Doom Patrol isn't fighting the new monsters of the world, they're attempting to save them. Metahumans have always had a rough go in the DC Universe. Depending on their origin, metahumans could easily become enemies that wind up on the wrong side of Superman or Batman. At best they wind up in a lab where they continue to be poked and prodded, and at worst they wind up another villain in a hero’s rogues gallery. The Doom Patrol wants to change the system completely and give metahumans a third option and allow them the chance to find a new life. But in doing so, they may make enemies out of the DCU’s greatest heroes. The Doom Patrol is Saving Metahumans From Villains and Heroes DC’s heroes hearts are in the right place when they are attempting to save the day from out of control metahumans. However, they’ve been helping a system that’s helped condemn hurting people to laboratories, or even worse, the Suicide Squad. The Doom Patrol is living proof that metahumans can come back from drastic changes and live fairly normal lives. But in order for them to get their point across, they’re going to have to fight the system that’s been in place for years, and be willing to take on League-level heroes. But if it means making the world a better place for metahumans, the Doom Patrol is no doubt willing to fight any DC hero coming their way.
