John Lennon had a Piano Teacher!

Of the thousands of books and articles written on The Beatles this story, that John Lennon had a piano teacher and took piano lessons, until now, has been never been told publicly before and known only by a few people.

John Lennon had a piano teacher named Bill Fritchman. Bill Fritchman was a Juilliard Music graduate student who was also the Lennon's personal assistant when John Lennon and Yoko Ono rented a beautiful ocean view home on eastern Long Island in Montauk in the 1970's.

The home was owned by Bob Baird at the time and many years later was bought by Ralph Lauren I was told.

When the Lennon's arrived it was Bill Fritchman who acquainted them with Montauk and took care of errands for them.

Next to the magnificent home was a smaller cottage with a baby grand piano and it was here that John Lennon started in his role as a student of the piano with a teacher.

I was a music student of Bill and he was one of my closest friends. I learned as much as I could about the piano lessons and the time he spent teaching John Lennon.

In the coming days I will share the rest of the story of Bill Fritchman teaching John Lennon piano, the music John Lennon wanted to learn to play and a book John brought with him one day to learn from.
