A young Filipino guy named San Pedro Calungsod was born in the late 17th century in the Visayan area of the Philippines. He was regarded for his brilliance and dedication to the Catholic religion and was among the first native Filipinos to get an education from Spanish Jesuit missionaries.

Pedro Calungsod, at 14 years old, enlisted in a Jesuit mission to the Mariana Islands, or Guam today. He worked extensively to evangelize the local Chamorro people there, assisting the missionaries in their work.

Because of his devotion to his cause, Pedro Calungsod decided to train as a catechist, teaching the Chamorro people the Catholic religion and contributing to the establishment of a robust Catholic community on the islands. He quickly gained the respect and admiration of the Christian community in Guam because of his bravery, generosity, and faith.

Pedro's missionary activity, meanwhile, encountered resistance from certain Chamorros who were hostile to the new church and its tenets. A gang of Chamorros who disapproved of Pedro Calungsod and a Jesuit priest named Father Diego Luis de San Vitores killed them in 1672.

Pedro Calungsod's tenacity and commitment to his faith had a profound effect on the people of Guam and the Philippines despite his youth. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the word'seminar' has been used in the context of a conference on the history of the field of linguistics.
