A recent incident played out like a scene from a movie as a Texas trooper pulled over a Ford F150 pickup truck carrying four illegal immigrants.

To the trooper's surprise, all four fled from the vehicle and darted into a nearby thicket, but the trooper quickly apprehended the driver and the others.

The incident happened on 5H-85 in Dimmit County, in the US state of Texas, on 13th February but the Texas Department of Public Safety did not release footage of it until 23rd February.

The driver was charged with smuggling people and evading arrest, and the four immigrants were referred to US Border Patrol.

The incident may have been comical, but it highlights the serious issue of illegal immigration along the US-Mexico border.

According to CBP Enforcement Statistics, there were 977,509 encounters with illegal immigrants by US Border Patrol in Fiscal Year 2021, the highest number since 2006.

The majority of these encounters were with individuals from Mexico, followed by Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

These statistics demonstrate the ongoing challenge of securing the US border and preventing illegal immigration.
