Tbilisi residents gather outside the Georgian Parliament to protest against the foreign agent bill on Tuesday.

The governing Georgian Dream party has passed two versions of the draft law on their first reading, saying the move would be similar to US laws on lobbying. It came despite angry scenes and fighting inside the chamber.

Both versions would require organisations to register as 'agents of foreign influence' if more than 20 percent of their income came from abroad.

Opposition groups and Western politicians have condemned the changes, with the EU claiming they are 'inconsistent' with Georgia’s application to join the bloc.
