20,000 tonnes of Russian fertilisers handed over to Malawi at official event in Lilongwe

Russia's 'Uralchem-Uralkali' Group has delivered the first shipment of 20,000 tonnes of fertilisers to the Republic of Malawi as a free aid package, the company's press service said on Monday.

The fertiliser delivery ceremony was held near the country's capital Lilongwe. It was attended by Malawian Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale, Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Malawi Nikolai Krasilnikov, as well as representatives of 'Uralchem-Uralkali' and the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

In September, President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Federation was ready to supply fertilisers stuck in European ports to Africa free of charge.
