Mar. 7, 1963 - In the Rose Garden of the White House today, President Kennedy welcomed a group of 40 high school students from as many countries. The students were delegates to the 17th annual New York Herald Tribune Youth Forum, a series of lectures and meetings where students discuss major world problems and propose solutions. A Secret Service agent and a White House policeman were pressed into service to relieve the President of the many gifts the students gave him. The President sent his personal assistant, David Powers, into his office so he could reciprocate. The young ladies received pens bearing his name and the men tie clasps in the form of Mr. Kennedy’s World War II naval command, PT-109.
