Should Ukraine Retreat From Bakhmut?

In a boxing match, one might retreat to the ropes in an effort to lure their opponent into throwing ineffective punches and wearing them out. This strategy has been employed by Ukrainian troops in their struggle for Bakhmut, a small town in eastern Ukraine that has become symbolic of their determination and defiance against Moscow's invasion.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian general staff has not yet made a decision whether or not to withdraw from Bakhmut. If so, Kyiv may want to act quickly before Russia fully seizes control of two key roads connecting it to its main resupply route.
