Christian Faith After High School: 3 Ways to Predict If Your Kid Will Stay

We constantly hear about kids falling away from their Christian faith after high school. For Christian parents, this is a scary reality, so what can we do to help them stay close to God and faithful to Him?

I spoke with leaders from the Center for Youth Ministry Training who are hyper-focused on this demographic and they gave me some incredible insight on how to keep kids close to God past high school.

Essentially, it all comes down to parents. The three predictors include:

1. How often the family goes to church together growing up.
2. The faith strength & growth of the parents.
3. The amount of faith-based or spiritual conversations in the home over the years.

While many people depend on the church, Christian schools, books, shows, mentors, etc. -- the data shows this isn't enough. Unless parents are intimately involved in the faith formation of their kids, those kids have a really hard time connecting with God on a deeper level and holding onto their faith in adulthood.

I talk about this kind of research and data on my website and in my weekly newsletter for Christian women. If you'd like to join the newsletter, just head to ErickaAndersen.com and sign up on the pop-up you see.

In my new book, "Reason to Return: Why Women Need the Church & the Church Needs Women," I discuss how important parents are in the lives of their children's faith.
