1879 Zulu War
The Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 was one of the most epic and dramatic events recorded in the annuals of British history. What has really brought enduring fame to this conflict was the 1964 film ZULU, depicting the battle of Rorke’s Drift. The Battle took place at the Swedish Lutheran mission close to a drift on the Buffalo river. The Swedish missionary Peter Otto Witt purchased the trading post called Rorke’s Drift and named the mission Oscarsberg. Just as his fledgeling mission was getting underway war broke out on his doorstep.
