I have been using compound miter saws for more than 20-years and recently needed to replace my 12" Milwaukie, which has been a real workhorse. I read dozens of reviews and decided to go with the Skil Saw worm drive.
I have a half dozen worm drive skil saws that we use on the job every day and the magnesium model helps by saving weight and has been very durable.
Well, my new worm drive Skil Saw 12" compound miter saw showed up at the shop, and then the time consuming task of recalibrating the saw started. I spent 4-hours squaring up the saw, and finally getting the preset degree stops to engage.
It seemed to take forever. Well start using it on the job today and then the real test starts. Of note, my old Milwaukie work horse was a lot of money...more than twice the cost of the Skil or any of the DeWalt compound miter saws.
The conclusion is that this saw might not be as durable...only time will tell.
Great saw gets the job done!
